Austin the “Healthiest” Housing Market among Big Cities

Tarrytown Austin homesAustin, Texas has achieved the top ranking among big cities in the United States for its healthy housing market, according to a study conducted by Wallet Hub. The capital city ranked first among 62 cities with populations over 300,000 and twelfth among all cities. Among large cities, Austin was followed by Seattle, Denver, San Jose, and San Francisco. Fort Worth was tenth and Houston ranked eleventh.

Plano, Texas was top among midsize cities, with Irving and Laredo placing ninth and tenth. Among small cities, Frisco, Texas was number one, with Allen, Carrollton, McKinney, and Richardson also in the top ten.

Measured factors included home price as a percentage of income, percentage of underwater homes, average days on the market, percentage of homes selling for a gain, median home price appreciation, foreclosures, delinquent mortgages, and building permit activity, among others.
