Summer doldrums starting to set in at home? The Contemporary Austin Art School is offering an exhilarating and diverse mix of art classes for all ages this summer. Set on the grounds of 12-acre historic Laguna Gloria on Lake Austin, the Art School offers classes, workshops, and camps for kids as young as four years old and for adults of all ages.
An innovative upcoming Weekend Workshop for adults is iPhoneography, where attendees can spend two afternoons “exploring the stunning potential of the iPhone camera.” Students will learn about the best software apps for creating artistic images and will view professional examples of work created on iPhones, as well as shoot and finalize their own photos.
Other upcoming adult classes at the Art School include Painting with Hand-Dyed Paper, Kiln Carving, Soft-Stone Carving Sampler, classes in watercolors, photography, ceramics, and many more. There is also a no-intimidation selection of classes for “Absolute Beginners.”
This summer, kids ages six to eight can have fun with Bookmaking. From storybooks to sketchbooks to journals, kids will learn about book binding in a variety of ways, including single sheet, hand binding, and pop-up books. After constructing their books, kids will be able to fill them with their own art and ideas!
A Design and Illustration class is available for ages nine to 11, and Claymation Masters is available for ages nine to 14. Other classes for various children’s ages include Paint Draw Sculpt Nature, Wonderful Weavers, Outer Space Art, Cartooning, Whimsical Clay, and more!
