Austin will grow in population faster than any other large city in the United States in the next 25 years, according to research by American City Business Journals. It found that Austin’s population will almost double, increasing 98.5 percent by 2040, to almost four million residents.

The report lists the Austin-Round Rock population as 2,000,860 in 2015. It projects the area will reach 3,971,820 in 2040.

Other Texas cities made the list of cities likely to experience rapid growth until 2040: Houston at 66.7 percent, San Antonio at 57.3 percent, Dallas-Fort Worth at 53.5 percent, and McAllen-Edinburg at 51.3 percent.
